Hocine BOUKELLA

Hocine BOUKELLA
Biography
For over twenty years, Hocine Boukella, also known as Sidi Bemol, has been carving his unique furrows in the Algerian musical landscape, leading us on unexplored paths through his sonic experiments. This unconventional artist has always defied categorization and proudly asserted his freedom of creation. His initial albums, an inimitable blend of traditional music, blues, and rock, earned him the label of "Gourbi-Rock." However, he quickly ventures into the realm of Celtic music, intertwining it with Kabyle, chaâbi, and chaoui tunes. He subsequently releases two collections of simply orchestrated Kabyle sea shanties, followed by a richly layered album with Gypsies from Rajasthan. He then creates "L'Odyssée de Fulay," a musical tale at the Ivry Theatre. A unique character, Hocine Boukella, a biologist by training, is not only an author, composer, singer, storyteller, and producer but also a visual artist who has published several collections under the name Elho.
